Master of Public Health: Curriculum
Core Curriculum
At the center of the curriculum is a required core course of study providing a foundation of knowledge and skills for effective performance in public health. For either concentration - Health Management or Policy & Practice - the following courses are required. Students are advised to take these courses as early as possible.
15 credits:
- American Health System (3 credits)
- Biostatistics (3 credits)
- Epidemiology (3 credits)
- Environmental Health (3 credits)
- Social and Behavioral Foundations of Public Health (3 credits)
Health Management Concentration
For those students electing the Health Management concentration, the following additional core courses are required:
- Finance I (3 credits)
- Finance II (2 credits)
- Health Economics (3 credits)
- Health Information Management (3 credits)
- Health Law & Ethics (3 credits)
- Health Planning and Marketing (3 credits)
- Organizational Leadership (3 credits)
- Quality Improvement (3 credits)
- Capstone (3 credits)
- Field Experience (2 credits)
In order to reach the 46 credits required for the MPH degree with a concentration in Health Management, students will complete three (3) additional credits from among the elective courses.
Policy & Practice Concentration
For those students electing the Policy & Practice concentration, the following additional core courses are required:
- Applied Public Health Research and Evaluation (3 credits)
- Health Planning and Marketing (3 credits)
- Organizational Leadership (3 credits)
- Public Health Policy (3 credits)
- Public Health Practice (3 credits)
- Capstone (3 credits)
- Practicum (3 credits)
In order to reach the 45 credits required for the MPH degree with a concentration in Policy & Practice, students will complete an additional nine (9) credits from among the elective courses.

To satisfy elective credits, students may select from the above courses which are not required for a student's selected concentration. Students may also select courses from the following list.
