Certificates of Graduate Study are designed for professional who are considering a career shift or want to increase their knowledge in a particular field, as well as for students who want to supplement the master's degree.
A Certificate of Graduate Study can be taken as a 12-15 credit certificate program that does not require matriculation in a degree program, or as an additional six credits of coursework to augment the master's degree. Certificate programs include courses selected from the master's programs' curricula. Certificate students who later decide to pursue a master's degree may have all credits in which a grade of "B" or better was earned transferred to the degree. Admission to the Certificate programs requires a bachelor's degree and does not guarantee admission to the master's degree programs. Many certificate courses are offered at the Muskie School in Portland as well as at all University of Maine System campuses through the University's interactive television network (UNRT).
