Certificate in Health Policy & Management
Course of Study
Objectives
Enrollment in the Certificate Program is limited to ensure active participation and interaction among faculty and program participants. The Program offers students the option of selecting four courses (11 credits) from a list of five approved courses from the Graduate Program in Health Policy and Management. Courses are offered at the Muskie School in Portland as well as at all University of Maine System campuses through UNET (the University's Interactive television Network). Students in the certificate program who apply to the Muskie School's master's degree in Health Policy & Management may have all credits (in which a grade of B or better was earned) transferred to the degree.
Requirements
The certificate typically consists of the following courses (11 credits) courses from the graduate Health Policy & Management program:
- HPM 570 The American Healthcare System
- HPM 574 Community Health and Medical Care
- HPM 530 Fundamentals of Leadership in Healthcare
- HPM 676 Health Care Planning and Marketing
Students may request substitution of one of the following courses for any one of the preceding four courses:
- HPM 636 Health Information Management
- HPM 678 Health Law
- HPM 681 Quality and Outcomes of Health Care
