system support the work of managers, supervisors and workers in
implementing ASFA? Please rate the support provided by your system

a. Why did you give your system that rating?
While it provides management reports and some case management
support it requires a great deal of worker time to in-put. Worker
time is precious and they do not feel they get out of it as much
as they put in. The system would be much improved if it could
be accessed away from the worker’s desk computer. Additionally,
there has been some data field areas we have relied upon for management
decisions only to learn that the data was not accurate. The system
is improving but there is room for improvement.

The need for greater consistency in child welfare practice.
The need to improve focus on family needs and not only the target
child. The need to adopt child welfare practice standards for
all populations served by the Department including delinquent
youth. The need for a good quality assurance program. The need
for greater availability of services. The need for more worker
contact and improved quality of that contact.
11. Is there anything else that you
want to tell us regarding the best way to support staff as they
implement the requirements of ASFA and the CFSR?
There really needs to be more thought given to where the resources
are going to come from to support the improvements required. Right
now, we are looking at lean times. Our hope is to involve the
communities more to increase resources. Helping state programs
share the responsibility for protecting children and families
may be needed technical support.
