Judith A. Spross
Judith A. Spross, PhD, RN, Co-Investigator, is associate professor in USM's College of Nursing and Health Professions (CONHP). Prior to joining USM's faculty, Dr. Spross was a co-investigator and project manager at the Center for Applied Ethics and Professional Practice at Education Development Center, Inc. in Newton, MA. In this position, she worked on projects that integrated principles of quality improvement, evidence-based best practices, and institutional and clinician behavior change in the design and implementation of interventions aimed at improving practice. She has also developed and implemented curricula and collaborated on evaluation instrument development, data collection and interpretation. In other projects, Dr. Spross was responsible for assisting clinicians in 60 institutions to adopt evidence-based pain management practices. Dr. Spross has extensive experience as an advanced practice nurse and graduate educator. Her publications on advanced practice nursing, including award-winning textbooks, and articles and position statements on practice issues in oncology and pain management nursing have been influential in both practice, educational and policy arenas. In addition, she participated in the National Institute of Nursing Research's Nurse Scientist Training Program, NINR (July 17-20, 2001). Since joining the USM faculty part of her effort has been dedicated to supporting and mentoring faculty in their scholarship. She has helped young investigators on the CONHP faculty prepare proposals for foundations and works with faculty on submissions to federal agencies.
Project Role
Dr. Spross brings experience and an in-depth understanding of the ways APNs in practice can work with researchers to implement evidence-based quality improvement initiatives in clinical settings. She will provide assistance with the development and implementation of the infrastructure and the research components of the project.
