Other Qualified Mental
Health Professional (OQMHP) Requirements
NOTICE:
As of October 1, 2007, the MaineCare Other Qualified Mental Health Professionals
Day Treatment certification for Children's Behavioral Health Services has been
transferred from the Center for Learning, Muskie School, to the Center for Self
Determination, Health and Policy, at the Maine Support
Network. Other Qualified Mental Health Professionals-PNMI and Home Based
Services certification continues to be handled by the Center for Learning,
Muskie School. If you have any questions about OQMHP Day Treatment
certification, please contact

Age
18 plus, HS diploma or equivalent, relevant life experience can include
post HS or equivalent education or other specialized training; paid or
volunteer work, care for a family member. Providers use professional
judgment to determine relevant life experience and completion of BS I
training

I Provisional meets all of the requirements of BS I but has not completed
BS I training – must schedule within 30 days of hire and must finish
within 6 months for BS I without bachelors degree and within one year for
those with a bachelors degree

Treatment certificates will be issued by the Maine Support Network as
designated by the Department of Education. Staff must submit
documentation of training in 9 specified areas and proof of current
certification by DOE as an Education Technician. For those with
bachelor's degrees in psychology,
social
work, rehabilitation, sociology or a related field from an accredited
university or college, staff must provide documentation of training in
First Aid, CPR, and non-aggressive techniques of physical intervention

perform certain mental health functions AND
Written verification of BDS (or designee) certification maintained in BDS

addition Personal care Services staff shall successfully complete standard
first aid training and become certified to provide CPR within 6 months of
hire AND shall adequately perform personal care services to minimum
standards set by DHHS-Behavioral & Developmental Services)
Effective July 1st, 2005, the Department will require all applicants to
complete training in CPR and First Aid before they provide any direct
services to children. |
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, child dev't,
special ed, rehabilitation, sociology or a related field; OR a
Bachelors degree in another field and advanced training in one or more of
the above disciplines OR training in 9 specified areas.
Certification is retroactive to the date-of-hire if training is
completed within 90 days.
When the
training exceeds 90 days from date-of-hire, the OQMHP/PNMI certificate
will be effective on the date that the training is complete.
OQMHP-PNMI
Certificates issued by CFL

Supervised
by licensed, certified, or registered health professional with the
supervisory relationship having been described to and approved in
accordance with licensing regulations.
