Informing Decisions on Residential Care
This summer, Muskie students are working with researchers on a survey of 800 residential care facilities in Maine to better understand the range of services that are being offered and how they relate to client needs. The Muskie School is conducting the survey on behalf of Maine's Department of Health and Human Services to inform policy related to factors that make a residential setting more "home-like."
"It's interesting to connect research across the country back to Maine and consider how we can improve things for clients and providers," says Muskie student C. Bard. "It's a great opportunity to work with research staff, other master's students and doctoral students with a wide range of skills and expertise. It's really accelerated my research skills and, as someone with a background in fine art, given me a chance to use my imagination in a whole new way."
This study is part of a larger project housed at the Muskie School, "A Cross-System Profile of Maine's Long Term Support System," that is focused on understanding all of the resources and facilities available for long-term care in Maine, how and where long-term services and supports are provided, and to whom.
