Muskie School of Public Service

1st Annual Forum for Health Care Leaders

Health Care Quality and Performance . . . Everyone's Watching

October 17-18, 2005
Stone House, Freeport Maine

Presented by the Graduate Program in Health Policy and Management

Increasingly, consumers, employers, health plans and government are using measures of quality and performance to scrutinize the effectiveness and efficiency of health care organizations. As a result, it has become critically important for the entire management team – from front-line clinical supervisors to attending physicians and managers – to understand the context and impact of this trend and to develop strategies for meeting expectations of outside groups.

Speakers will share their insights and practical experience from across a variety of health care settings. Attendees will reflect on quality and performance within their organization and learn from, and with, colleagues from other organizations. This workshop will provide an understanding of:

  • Current trends and initiatives (both nationally and in Maine );
  • The importance of leadership and teaming at all levels within an organization; and
  • Informational and administrative strategies for quality improvement and performance management in health care organizations.

Underscoring the educational and participatory format of this forum, attendees will receive reading and reference materials in advance of the meeting.
