Systems of Care CurriculumStakeholder Involvement and Interagency Collaboration

We are pleased to make available a new comprehensive system of care curriculum for child welfare: Primer Hands On-Child Welfare!

Broadly stated, system of care casework practice assumes a highly individualized case plan and tailored services that build sustainable, wrap-around solutions from the strengths and needs of the family. The new comprehensive curriculum is the result of a collaboration between the Children's Bureau, the NRCOI and the other National Resource Centers in the Bureau's Training and Technical Assistance Network, the National Technical Assistance Center for Children's Mental Health at Georgetown University, and the Human Service Collaborative. Primer Hands On-Child Welfare includes the 10 modules listed below, each with PowerPoint slides, handouts, exercises, and case scenarios, as well as additional related materials.

You can download all of the materials in Primer Hands On-Child Welfare below. We have included Word files (if available) so you can individualize the materials and presentations for your audiences. PDF files are also available for ease of downloading and reviewing materials. Since changing Word files can result in formatting and layout changes, we suggest that you use the Word files only if you must revise the materials.

In addition to the curriculum, the NRCOI, together with other National Resource Centers, are available to provide training and technical assistance on systems of care, helping States and Tribes build their capacity to utilize this approach. States simply need to get the approval of the Federal Regional Office to access this T/TA.

Finally, we urge you to review "Introduction and Overview" first because it includes a section on “How to Use the Primer” that will help orient you further to the various modules.
