| Annual Juvenile Recidivism Report
This Juvenile Recidivism Report is the latest in a series of annual juvenile recidivism reports that began with the 1998 Baseline Report. The purpose of this report is to gain a better understanding of first time juvenile offenders and their offenses, how soon some of them recidivate, and measure juvenile recidivism over time.
This report provides a detailed profile of juveniles who were adjudicated for the first time in Maine between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004 and the offenses for which they were adjudicated. This report provides state and county level analysis on the type and severity of offenses, age, gender, and race characteristics of these offenders, along with trend analysis for the 1998 through 2004 cohorts. Recidivism rates are reported at one, two, and three years from first adjudication.
Appendix I: Raw Data Charts
The following Excel files provide you with the raw data used in the analysis conducted for this report. After careful consideration of the potential use and feedback from stakeholders, the following format was created. Data files are broken down in two sections, the 2004 Cohort and 1998-2004 Trends. In each section, data are further separated into the following subsections: demographic data, offense data, county level data, and recidivism data. Each Excel file may contain several worksheets. To access the various worksheets, click on the appropriate tab at the bottom left corner of the Excel file.
It is our hope that you will find this report and the data files useful to your work. If you have any questions, comments / feedback, or need the report or data provided in another format, please contact: Susan Pate, Research Analyst, spate@usm.maine.edu, 207-228-8002.
