Family Child Care Accreditation (NAFCC)

NAFCC COHORTS: Application for Maine Roads to Quality Accreditation Facilitation Project 2009

Family Child Care Accreditation through the National Association for Family Child Care with support from Maine Roads to Quality.

I want to know more about NAFCC Accreditation- Here are the steps:

Go to www.nafcc.org and read:

  • The Eligibility Standards for Accreditation- Do you qualify?
  • The Quality Standards for accreditation- When you read the quality standards and you have any questions call Sonja Howard at 615-3973 or email showard@usm.maine.edu. I travel a lot so email works well for me.
  • Do you have at least 60 training hours over the last 3 years? Accreditation asks that you have 90 training hours by the time you are ready to submit for the final observation. People entering the accreditation project through MRTQ should have most, if not all, of the training hours before entering the project.
  • Have I taken the Early Childhood Learning Guidelines Training? Contact your RDC if you haven’t and sign up for the next training date.
  • Am I a registry member on Maine Roads to Quality Provider Registry?
  • Am I a member of Quality for ME?
  • Call Sonja Howard at 615-3973 or email showard@usm.maine.edu to get your name on a list for future mailings of info on accreditation.
  • Ask yourself, am I interested in going through self-study and self reflection of my program? If your answer is no, you may not be ready for accreditation yet. When your answer is yes, it is time for you to move ahead.

When you have looked at the above and you feel your questions have been answered and know that you want to continue with the accreditation support project continue to #1.

  1. Become a member of NAFCC. You can do this online at www.nafcc.org - Cost is $35.00.
  2. Click here for a Maine Roads Accreditation Application for Family Child Care .
  3. The Cost: Maine Roads to Quality pays $700.00 of the fees. Providers pay $100.00. MRTQ will pay the fees as long as funding allows.
