The Penobscot Nation
Wabanaki Child Welfare Project – Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point and Penobscot Nation Consortium
Sponsoring Agencies: The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point (Sipayik) Department of Human Services and the Penobscot Nation Department of Human Services
Summary of Project: The Consortium members will articulate and implement a Child Welfare Practice Model unique to their respective Tribal communities based on current effective practice and national best practice. With the articulation of the Practice Model as their foundation, each Tribe will revise and update their policies and procedures as well as implement an automated child welfare data tracking system (Reconnect Families).
This project will include the entire communities served by the child welfare divisions of the Penobscot Nation Department of Human Services and the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point Department of Human Services. Achieving excellence in practice is a more attainable goal when there is a shared understanding of the role of the child welfare program in small Tribal communities, when accurate data and measures make clear the impact and consistency of services, and when programs can more efficiently report their results to stakeholders.
