September 20, 2005

Portland, ME: On October 17 and 18, the USM Muskie School of Public Service will present the First Annual Forum For Health Care Leaders, "Health Care Quality and Performance ... Everyone's Watching," at the Stone House Conference Center in Freeport.

"Increasingly, measures of quality and performance are used to scrutinize the effectiveness and efficiency of health care organizations," said Gino Nalli, chair of the Muskie School's graduate program in Health Policy and Management. "At this forum, attendees will hear about current trends and learn strategies for quality improvement and performance management." The forum is designed for health care managers, including front-line clinical supervisors, attending physicians, and administrators.

Among the speakers at this two-day forum are Dr. Stephen F. Loebs from the School of Public Health at Ohio State University, who will speak about the importance of leadership and teams to successful implementation of quality systems, and Andrew A. Aberdale, President of Aberdale and Associates, LLC, who will provide an overview of performance measures and how managers are applying them to enhance operational performance.

Panel discussions will feature Lois Skillings of Mid Coast Hospital, Dr. Jackie Cawley of Martin's Point Health Care, Dr. Larry G. Anderson, Director of Quality Improvement for MaineHealth and Maine Medical Center Physician Hospital Organization (MMC-PHO), and Dr. John Yindra of Central and Western Maine Physician Hospital Organization.
