The National Child Welfare Resource Center for Organizational Improvement (NRCOI) provides T/TA to public State and Tribal child welfare agencies on training systems.

We help agency administrators and training managers think about their training system as a management tool that supports the work and mission of the agency, sustains organizational improvements and assures that personnel at every level of the agency have needed values, attitudes, and skills. An effective training system should, at minimum, support and link with the agency’s:

  • practice model;
  • supervisors;
  • management and other internal systems, such as policy, QA, and case review; and
  • external partners.

We provide tools and T/TA that help agencies assess their training system. We also work with agencies as they develop curricula for supervisors, managers and administrators to build supervisory skills, support a skilled and stable workforce and achieve better outcomes for children and their families.

We continue to work with national child welfare and social work organizations, States, counties, and institutions of higher education to collect and share best practices around training tools, curriculum development and worker retention and recruitment. Additionally we provide T/TA to States and Tribes on workforce issues such as workload and worker safety.

New Publication: Report of the 2008 ACF Region V Roundtable on Child Welfare Training Systems
In late October 2008, the ACF Region V office hosted a Roundtable on Child Welfare Training Systems for Region V states. The goal of this roundtable was to once again bring together leaders in child welfare training from ACF Region V states and provide opportunities for them to discuss with their peers training issues, challenges and successes.

This report, Report of the 2008 ACF Region V Roundtable on Child Welfare Training Systems, contains information about the event, including the roundtable agenda, evaluation results, the impetus and planning for the roundtable, a list of roundtable participants and a detailed transcript of the large group discussions.

Roundtable Materials:

This Roundtable built upon the successes of the first Roundtable held in October of 2007. View that report here: 2007 Report of the ACF Region V Roundtable on Child Welfare Training Systems.
